Halloween Soap

When I was a little girl my mom used to work at a very large aerospace company.  Many of the women working in my mom’s group were pretty crafty and she always brought home items she had bought, hand made cloth dolls, knitted slippers, Christmas ornaments and embroidered dish towels, just to name a few.  As I was thinking back on all of those items I remembered one item in particular she brought home that I just loved.  It was an embellished bar of soap!  So, right about now you’re saying to yourself, a bar of soap, who gets excited about a bar of soap?  But, if you were a little girl about the age of seven and you were given a bar of soap wrapped in beautiful blue tulle, adorned with sequins and pearls and fashioned to look like an exotic fantail fish…..come on, you probably would have been excited too!  So, I decided I wanted to try my hand at “decorating soap” and went searching the internet for pics.  Crazy thing, I found a picture of a bar of soap just like the one I had has a child!  It seems that back in the 1960’s the Palmolive Soap Company used to make an oval bar called sweetheart soap and used to sell kits to decorate them with.  For some reason, I can’t seem to find the pic of the fish again but here is a pic I found of the kit.

Anyway, I decided to try my hand at “decorating soap” using a Halloween theme.  Mine doesn’t look anything like the pics of the past but I had fun with it just the same.  Here is my version.

Let me know what you think! :)
